Nathan Angelo

In the ever-changing landscape of modern pop, Nathan Angelo shines as a refreshing alternative, embracing the classic elements of popular music and celebrating the backbeat of American tradition. As the revival of music in the 60’s and 70’s brought together the heritage of the Great American songbook, the flair of jazz and heartache of the Delta blues, Angelo integrates these forms into his own music with great ease and delight. For the past decade, Angelo has captivated audiences across the country with his high-spirited live show and captured the imagination of a loyal following through prolific songwriting, independently selling over 40,000 albums along the way.

Angelo’s latest full-length album A Matter of Time (Aug 2017) reflects his journey through the life-altering experiences of becoming a father and facing his daughter’s rare, life-threatening metabolic disease. His daughter received a liver transplant in Fall 2016, and Angelo’s latest release wrestles with the aches of adversity and ultimately celebrates the beauty of life and the hope he has for his daughter. A Matter of Time embraces the soul, classic r&b and piano-pop of some of Angelo’s more prominent influences -- Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Elton John -- while fearlessly venturing into new sonic territory to compete with pop contemporaries like Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake. Alongside his finest songwriting to date, Angelo’s voice resounds as an irrefutable force as he carries listeners to new places unfamiliar to the likes of modern pop music.

A Matter of Time debuted at #12 on the iTunes singer-songwriter charts and has already garnered more than 2 Million streams on Spotify.

Tone Loc

1980s rap pioneer Tone-Loc was the second rap act ever to reach #1 on Billboard’s album charts. (The Beastie Boys were the first.) His album Loc’d After Dark (1989) spawned the hit singles “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina”; they remain Loc’s best-known tunes. After recording his 1991 follow-up album, Cool Hand Loc, the singer put his familiar raspy voice to work on TV and in film, landing roles on the TV series Roc and in films including Jim Carrey’s breakthrough flick Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994) and the animated sci-fi epic Titan A.E. (2000).

Sugarhill Gang

The Sugarhill Gang, known as the first nationally popular African American hip-hop group, comprised three members: Mike Wright (Wonder Mike), Henry Jackson (Big Bank Hank), and Guy O’ Brien (Master Gee), all from Englewood, New Jersey. The group is best known for its 1979 hit single, “Rapper’s Delight,” which was also the first hip hop single to rank in the top 40 hits and to become part of a multi-platinum selling album. Rapper’s Delight is also credited with popularizing hip hop as a new musical genre.

Wright, Jackson and O’Brien were discovered and signed to Sugarhill Records by producer Sylvia Robinson and her husband, record tycoon, Joe Robinson. Sylvia Robinson had become aware of the large block parties that sprang up in the New York area, which featured a new style of music defined as underground hip hop. Robinson met Wright, Jackson, and O’Brien at one of these parties where the three were performers and signed them to the Sugarhill label. They were given the stage name, Sugarhill Gang and soon afterward they recorded “Rapper’s Delight.”

With a recording contract and air time on radio stations, the group easily became the most popular hip hop group in the country. In 1979 they also became the first hip hop group to perform on American Bandstand. At the time “Rapper’s Delight” was ranked #36 hit on the U.S. pop chart and #4 on the Rhythm & Blues chart. The lyrics to “Rapper’s Delight” sung by Big Bank Hank, were originally written by Grandmaster Caz, a former hip hop artist for Chic records. However, Grandmaster Caz did not receive any royalties for this. A lawsuit filed by Chic’s Nile Rodgers for copyright infringement was settled out of court in 1979.

Although “Rapper’s Delight” was an instant hit, the Sugarhill Gang would never reach the top of the charts again. They released three albums: Sugarhill Gang (1980), 8th Wonder (1982) and Jump on It (1999). Although considered to be a one hit wonder group, the Sugarhill Gang opened doors for African Americans into the music industry through hip hop, a genre today dominated by African Americans. “Rapper’s Delight” is still a major influence today. Rolling Stone Magazines ranked it #248 of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The group continues to tour today.
